Elizabeth MacRae was born in Columbia, South Carolina, and grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She went to the Holton Arms School in Washington, D.C. and later moved to New York City to study acting with Uta Hagen at the Herbert Berghof Studio and the Art Student's League.
Ms. MacRae started acting in movies and TV shows in the mid-1960s. Some of her film roles include parts in For Love or Money (1963), The Incredible Mr. Limpet (1964), Everything's Ducky (1961), and Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation (1974). On TV, she played Gomer Pyle's girlfriend in a show called Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. (1964) and Festus's girlfriend on Gunsmoke (1955) for three years.
