R. Scott Leisk is an award-winning American film director, screenwriter, and producer. Scott was born in Jacksonville, Florida, to Judith (nee Miller) and Robert H. Leisk. His father, a retired oil man, is of Scottish and Irish descent, and his mother, a retired nurse, is of German and English ancestry. He grew up in Houston, Texas, and at an early age, he was interested in filmmaking and played around with his parents Super 8 camera, making home movies. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BS in Radio, TV, and Film (RTF). While attending college, he was inspired to become a filmmaker after studying the films of the great French and Italian filmmakers of the 1960s. It was then that he saw the potential of film beyond just entertainment, but as an art form.
His debut feature film, 'Mahogany Sunrise' (2014), won a Platinum REMI award at the 47th annual WorldFest Houston International Film Festival. The film screened internationally at the 6th Underground Cinema Film Festival in Dublin, Ireland. Available on DVD/Blu-Ray, Amazon Prime, and Vimeo On Demand.
His second film 'Colossal Youth' (2018), won the Audience Award for Best Picture at the 24th San Antonio Film Festival in 2018, was Semi-Finalist at the Sydney Indie Film Festival and enjoyed a limited theatrical release in select US cities and internationally in Tokyo, Japan, and Sofia, Bulgaria. Available on DVD/Blu-Ray, Amazon Prime, Tubi, Plex, Crackle, Roku, Apple TV, Vudu, and others.
His latest film, 'Velocity Girl' (2023), was released theatrically in limited release and is now on the film festival circuit. Awards; Best Texas Feature Film at the 2023 South Texas International Film Festival, Best Supporting Actor: Craig Sheffer at the 2023 Marina del Rey Film Festival, Audience Choice Best Feature Film at the 2023 Paris Lift-Off Film Festival and Honorable Mention: Best Feature Film, June 2023, Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival.
As a Producer, he produced many award-winning films that are available on major streaming platforms like Peacock, Apple iTunes, Tubi, and Amazon Prime.
He has written multiple screenplays that are in various stages of development and investment. His screenplay 'Hacienda' was a 2018 Page International Screenwriting Awards Quarter Finalist. Hacienda was also an official selection for the 6th Oaxaca Film Fest 2015 Global Script Challenge. His revenge action drama screenplay 'Sirena' was selected for the 7th Oaxaca Film Fest Global Script Challenge.
